Dr. Amanda Mei found herself falling in love with Brighton and Northumberland County over the past few years, after visiting a friend who recently moved to the area, and felt inspired to make some life changes. Having worked hard to reach her professional goals, she found the next step was to begin building her practice in an area where her musculoskeletal expertise would be well received.  Since earning her Doctorate of Chiropractic (DC) from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2013, Dr. Mei has taken some big leaps: moving her business and home to a slower-paced area, a far cry from the decade she spent in the larger cities across the 401 corridor.  Four years after her professional debut in the Hamilton-area, she joined the Northumberland Health and Wellness Centre, then run by Dr. Larry Shaw.  Due to Dr. Shaw’s early retirement resulting from a series of health issues, Dr. Mei stepped into her current role of running the clinic as its new owner in July 2016. She looks forward to continuing to help people heal, and to contributing to the community of Brighton and the surrounding area.

A naturally passionate and empathetic individual with a flair for relating to those she treats, Dr. Mei has quickly found her place within the Brighton community.  Her credentials include: Contemporary Medical Acupuncture, myofascial release, and a variety of spinal and joint manipulation techniques which allow Dr. Mei to tailor each treatment plan to the individual.  She maintains an evidence-based, patient-focused perspective, and is a strong advocate of educating her patients about injury prevention.   Indeed, it is this emphasis on teaching her patients the tools to prevent future injury, rather than waiting for a problem to develop, that is getting Dr. Mei noticed throughout Northumberland County.

Dr. Mei first became interested in her field after an injury, sustained as a teenager, was quickly treated by a chiropractor.  She was attracted to Brighton in particular, and felt people in theDr_Amanda_Mei_logo-01 community could benefit from her skills. Dr. Mei uses conservative, non-invasive methods, taking an integrative approach that broadens the horizons of chiropractic care beyond strictly spinal manipulation.

“There is a lot of diversity within the profession with respect to how to go about patient treatment,” says Dr. Mei.  “The skills I’ve learned vary a little from others in the area,” she says, noting that each Chiropractor has their own special technique to help their patients.  Dr. Mei is excited to be involved in the community and to help those experiencing pain get moving and feeling well again.

You can visit Dr. Mei at Northumberland Health & Wellness Centre at 12 Alice Street, right across from The Brighton Town Hall. Massage Therapy is also offered at this location by Johanna Kelly (RMT).
