In October, along Presqu’ile Parkway just before the bend that leads into the park, there was a flurry of activity in a building located on the north side. It was obvious the low-built yellow-siding building that has been dormant for while was coming back to Life.
Then a sign went up. Then there was a lot of activity inside. The weekend that the annual Christmas in Presqu’ile gift and craft show opened in the park, Bobbi Wright’s new store – The Birdhouse Nature Store – opened. And it was packed. The parking lot full.
Talk about great timing.
Says Bobbi, “”We opened November fourth. We kinda jumped on the back of Christmas in Presqu’ile. It was the best kind of insanity you could want. With all the birders that come and go out of the park, it’s a good fit that way.”
Bobbi Wright has been away from the area for 28 years living in the Milton and Mississauga areas. A former incarnation as a Chiropractic Health Assistant is behind her. Her daughters have left the nest and are pursuing their dreams.
The past few years have been a time of re-invention for her helped along by the publishing of a children’s book called, “The Princess and the Whale.”
In July, she bought The Birdhouse from Connie Crowe of Wooler who is legendary along County Road 40 for her quality bird mixes.
Before she jumped into running the business she took a month in France to rejuvenate. Bobbi writes a blog where she shares her thoughts about Life.
In her words, “In the past three years… there has been a lot of healing … and a lot of that healing came through being connected to Nature. Coming and buying a place like the Birdhouse was almost a thank you. I am putting something out to the Universe that is helping protect Nature.”
“The birds are our smallest friends out there. A lot of them are under stress by the way we move and live in the world. And if I can do something small to help them then it makes it all worthwhile.”
The store is fresh and bright. There are birdhouses and bird feeders and giftware. Anything related to birds and Nature. Of course, there is a wide selection of bird feed. Forget buying seed you know nothing about. Bobbi sells non-GMO seed from a quality seed dealer.
As for service, she says, “I have a great team I inherited from Connie and I hired a third person. They are passionate about what they do. Their knowledge base is sound.”
